FILM WITHOUT FILM / CREATIVE GEOGRAPHY

This work references 5 scenes from the "creative geography" montages of Russian filmmaker Lev Kuleshov, whose experimental films explored the relationship between images and space. (After the images were read into a CT scanner as a series of images, the three-dimensional data that resulted was sent to a 3D printer to produce the work.) Unlike photography, the images have a timeline and actual material thickness. The work reveals a new side to film by expressing in three dimensions the cinematic space defined by the positional relationship between camera and subject.
